Which brands make the best men’s gilets?

What should I be looking for in a gilet?
If there were three things we would tell anyone trying on gilets in store to look for, it would be fit, form & function.
For fit, you never want a gilet that is too tight or too loose. Because they’re mostly worn when layering (jumpers in winter, shirts in summer), you never want your gilet to feel stuffy.
When we say form, we’re talking about how it sits on you when worn. While a gent with a slimmer build or narrow shoulder might need a gilet where the sleeve juts out a little (some of the Barbour Racer gilets are good examples), someone with a bigger build or a little bit of a tummy wouldn’t want a fully padded gilet and may opt for a fleece or angled puff (Armani Exchange do excellent angled stitching on their gilets).
And when it comes to function, think about when you’ll be wearing it. Is it a gilet that you use for work? Then a beige gilet like a Calvin Klein number is best. Is it a gilet to be worn while training on winter evenings or by the sidelines on colder nights? BOSS or XV Kings gilets might be better suited.
How much should I pay for a new gilet?
We find that designer men’s gilets priced between €120-€180 are best if you want a reliable one that lasts years. Certain brands like Belstaff and BOSS would be your higher end, with Bugatti usually in the mid-price range.
